What did Cyrus proclaim about building a house in Judah?
Cyrus, king of Persia, proclaimed that the Lord God of heaven had given him all the kingdoms of the earth and that God had charged him to build a house which is in Judah. This came when the seventy years were expired, as Jeremiah had written hundreds of years before.
Les explains that after the Jews' seventy-year captivity in Babylon, the Medes and Persians destroyed Babylon, and Cyrus became the Persian king. Daniel, who had been second in the Babylonian kingdom, ended up as the second man in the Persian kingdom. When the seventy years expired, God used Cyrus to proclaim that the Lord God of heaven had given him all the kingdoms of the earth and had charged him to build a house in Judah. Cyrus had been named in Jeremiah's writing hundreds of years earlier.
