What did Jeremiah prophesy would happen to Judah?

Jeremiah prophesied that the Babylonians would come and overrun Judah, kill its people without mercy, and take what remained captive. Because Judah refused to turn from idolatry, God would use Babylon as judgment, and Jeremiah warned them persistently, even though he was thrown into a dungeon for trying to warn his people.

Les explains that God sent prophet after prophet to Judah because He had compassion on His people and His dwelling place. Jeremiah was a prophet in Judah, called the weeping prophet because he could see the handwriting on the wall concerning Judah: if they did not turn from their idolatry, the Babylonians would come and overrun them. Jeremiah prophesied that Babylon would kill them without mercy and take what was left of them captive. Instead of heeding him, they threw Jeremiah into a dank, wet dungeon and left him there to rot, and that is where the Babylonians found him—because he tried to warn his people.
