How low did Israel get spiritually?
Israel sank to the depths of offering their own little children in fire to the god Moloch. They rejected God's statutes and covenant, left all His commandments, and told God to get out of their national and personal life, causing their sons and daughters to pass through the fire.
Les teaches that the Israelites literally told God, 'Get out of my life. We don't want you in our national life. We don't want you in our personal life.' They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire. Les emphasizes how low they got spiritually: they actually offered their own little children to the gods in fire. The idol Moloch was sort of like a Buddha but with his arms outstretched; they would heat that white hot and lay their babies on those outstretched arms. God could not take it anymore. Jeremiah foretold and warned Israel as well as Judah, and they had just turned their back on everything God had tried to do with them.
