Les Feldick Bible Study

How did God organize the Israelite camp whenever they set up the tabernacle?

God arranged Israel’s camp by tribal groupings when the tabernacle was set up. Each time they camped, the same three tribes were on the east, the same three on the north, the same on the west, and so on. When they moved out, they always moved in the same order.

Les explains that Israel was not a disorganized mob coming out of Egypt; they were an organized nation. Their tribal organization gave them resiliency and a clear chain of command. Moses communicated with the several million Jews by bringing the heads of the tribes together, and the word then went out down the line like a military command. When the tabernacle was set up, God organized the camp so that every time they set up camp, the same three tribes were on the east, the same three on the north, the same on the west, and so on. When they moved out, they always moved out in the same order.
