What did Moses and Aaron ask Pharaoh to let Israel do in Exodus 5?
Moses and Aaron demanded that Pharaoh let Israel leave Egypt for at least a three-day journey into the wilderness, so that they could sacrifice to the Lord their God. Pharaoh rebelled at the thought and began to put harder tasks upon the Israelite slaves.
Les explains that Moses and Aaron confronted Pharaoh and made their demand that Israel was to leave Egypt for at least a three-day journey into the wilderness so they could sacrifice to the Lord their God. Pharaoh, however, rebelled at even the thought of that and began to put harder tasks upon the slaves of Israel. Les particularly points to Exodus 5:7, where Pharaoh says, "...you shall no more give the people straw to make brick." He notes that higher criticism, a group of theologians beginning in the late 1800s especially in Germany, scoffed at this part of Scripture as unbelievable.
