Why did God wait so long to take Israel out of Egypt?

God delayed Israel's deliverance until the Canaanites' iniquity was full, as stated in Genesis 15. He patiently allowed His people to suffer in Egypt so the Amorites and Canaanites could prove the worthiness of the judgment coming upon them. Their sin had reached a depth that made God's judgment fair and justified.

Les explains that God waited until the Canaanites' iniquity was full, as He had told Abraham in Genesis 15. God patiently let His own people suffer in Egypt so the Amorites and Canaanites could prove the worthiness of the judgment coming upon them. When Israel entered the land, God told Joshua to kill all the Canaanites, not sparing even an infant or an old person, because sparing one would be like a rotten apple in a barrel that corrupts the rest. But Israel did not carry it out, and just as God said, if they did not cleanse the land, they would go down to the Canaanites' level, and they did. God nevertheless gave them the land occupied by the Canaanites.
