What did God promise Abraham about the Israelites coming out of Egypt in Genesis 15:14?
God promised Abraham that He would judge Egypt, the nation that would enslave his descendants, and afterward the children of Israel would come out of Egypt with great substance. They would return to the promised land after four hundred and thirty years, in the fourth generation.
Les explains that Genesis 15:14 records God telling Abraham that He will judge Egypt, the nation his descendants would serve, and afterward the children of Israel will come out with great substance. He also told Abraham he would die after a good old age, and that in the fourth generation they would come back to Canaan. After four hundred and thirty years in Egypt, they would return to the promised land. God could not send the Amorites packing until they had four hundred years to either clean up their act or become so bad that God would be fair in telling Israel to annihilate them. It was all prophesied: they would end up in a land not theirs, Egypt, under slavery and bondage, but God would bring them back to the promised land.
And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
