Why did Israel, Jacob's family, move to Egypt?

Jacob's family moved to Egypt because of the famine. Joseph, who had been sold into Egypt earlier, stored grain during seven years of good production so the world could survive seven years of famine. Therefore Jacob's twelve sons and their families went down to Egypt for food.

Les explains that Jacob's twelve sons and their families all ended up down in Egypt because of the famine. Joseph had earlier been sold into Egypt, and during the seven years of good production he piled up the grain and foodstuffs in order to carry the world of that time through the seven years of famine. So the move to Egypt was connected to Joseph already being there and to the need to survive the famine that affected the land.
