How is Joseph's rejection by his brothers a type of Jesus's rejection?

Joseph's brothers hated and rejected him, counting him dead, which typifies Christ's rejection. As Joseph was sent ahead to preserve life, so Jesus endured rejection to accomplish the plan of salvation, die for us, and extend salvation by grace. This pattern reveals God's sovereign purpose in rejection.

Les teaches that when the brethren hated and rejected Joseph and put him to death so far as they were concerned, and he ended up in Egypt, all of this shows that the Lord Jesus Himself had to go through all of these rejections in order to bring about the whole plan of salvation, that He could die for us and extend salvation by grace. Les says this is beautifully laid out in the life of Joseph. Joseph later told his brothers that God sent him to preserve them, to preserve a posterity in the earth, and to save their lives by great deliverance. God is sovereign in everything He does. Though the family later went down to Egypt, into Goshen, God had previously told Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob not to leave the land of promise.
