What is the coming of the Ishmaelites a type of?
The coming of the Ishmaelites is a type of resurrection. Joseph was cast into the pit and considered dead, but the Ishmaelites came and took him, picturing life from death. This foreshadows Christ, who was dead yet is alive, illustrating resurrection.
Les explains that the Ishmaelites coming to take Joseph is a type of resurrection. Joseph had been cast into the pit and considered dead by his brothers, but the Ishmaelites came and took him, so even though he was dead, yet he is alive. This pictures Christ, who was also rejected and crucified, yet rose again. The pattern continues as both Joseph and Christ take a Gentile bride after being restored.
