What happens in Jacob's conversion?

In Jacob’s conversion, the man is changed from a deceiver and supplanter, which is the meaning of Jacob, to a prince with God, which is the meaning of Israel. This change pictures what should happen to every one of us.

Les explains that the Hebrew names were definite: Jacob meant the deceiver, the supplanter, while Israel meant literally a prince with God. In Genesis 27, Isaac said, “Thy brother came with subtlety, with deception, and hath taken away thy blessing.” Then verse 36 asks, “Is he not rightly named Jacob?” Looking ahead, Les says Jacob’s conversion is where the man is changed from a deceiver and supplanter into a prince with God. He then applies it: that is exactly what should happen to every one of us.
