How long did Jacob and Esau remain without enmity toward each other?

Jacob and Esau remained without enmity from age 24 until age 77, a span of 53 years. During that period, if they had contact, they got along. The birthright did not create the enmity; the later blessing did, because it carried the material double portion.

Les teaches that from the time Jacob and Esau were 24 until they were 77, there was no enmity between the brothers. If they had any contact, they evidently got along. The birthright did not create the enmity that the blessing later did. The blessing was the material side of the picture, involving the eldest son’s double portion. Esau was interested in that double portion, so he became upset when he learned the blessing had been given to Jacob. That blessing also meant Jacob was in the line of the Messiah and would receive a double portion of Isaac’s wealth. The people were wealthy for their day, with flocks, herds, servants, gold, and silver.
