Why did Esau end up marrying Canaanite women?

Esau ended up marrying Canaanite women because he was a man destitute of faith. He saw no importance in the birthright at age 24, so his life became intermingled with the pagan Canaanites, and at age 40 he married a couple of them, bringing grief to Isaac and Rebekah.

Les teaches that Esau married Canaanite women because of the kind of man he was: destitute of faith. At age 24 he sold the birthright for a bowl of red bean soup and saw no importance in it whatsoever. There was no enmity between Jacob and Esau over that birthright deal. Then, 16 years after Jacob took the birthright, Esau married the Canaanite women. The Canaanites were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah. Les explains that Esau's life was intermingled with the pagan Canaanites until finally he ended up marrying a couple of them at age 40. This all indicates Esau's character. Les also notes that 37 years passed from the time Jacob got the birthright at 24 until Jacob connived with his mother to get the blessing and had to flee.
