Why couldn't God use Esau?

God could not use Esau because he had no faith. Scripture teaches that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Even if Esau was morally better than Jacob, his lack of faith disqualified him from God's sovereign purpose.

Les explains that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). No matter how morally good Esau may have been—and Les doubts he was, because he married Canaanites—even if he was a better man than Jacob, God couldn't use him because he had no faith. Les applies this today: people are turned off by Christianity because they are destitute of faith; they cannot believe the Word of God. God doesn't have to prove anything; He is sovereign and has spoken. Faith is required to please Him.
