How did Old Testament prophecy come about?
Old Testament prophecy came about not by the will of man, but by the inspiration of the Spirit of God. As Peter says, holy men of God wrote as they were moved along by the Spirit. Daniel wrote end-time prophecy centuries before fulfillment yet did not understand all he recorded.
Les teaches that all Scripture is inspired of God. He ridicules the idea that these things originated around a campfire and were merely handed down as legend. Instead, Peter says prophecy did not come in old time by the will of man; holy men of God wrote as they were moved along by the Spirit. Daniel illustrates this: he wrote end-time prophecy long before it happened, heard the words, but did not understand what he was writing. He asked what the end of these things would be. He could comprehend that terrible times were coming, but not the full meaning.
