What is the chief advantage of being a Jew according to Romans 3:1-2?
Romans 3:1-2 states the chief advantage is that the Jewish people, the Israeli nation, were entrusted with the Word of God. Paul says it is 'much, every way,' primarily because God committed His Word to them. They also received priesthood, worship, and the law, yet these did not remove the difference.
Les explains that in Romans 3:1 Paul asks what advantage the Jew has, or what profit there is in circumcision and practicing the Jewish religion. Verse 2 answers, 'Much, every way,' but chiefly or primarily because unto the Jewish people, the Israeli nation, were committed the Word of God. Les notes they had everything going for them: God gave them the priesthood, the worship, the civil law, and the whole system of law. Yet Les says it accomplished practically nothing, proving there is no difference, because the old Adamic nature is just as evident in the son of Abraham as in a Gentile.
What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
