Who do Abraham, Isaac, and Abraham's servant represent in the Genesis 24 illustration?
In this teaching, the Genesis 24 illustration presents Abraham as God the Father, Isaac as the Son, and Abraham's servant as the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. The servant's role parallels the Holy Spirit's work today, with the servant seeking a bride for Isaac.
Les explains that the Genesis 24 account is used as an illustration. He notes that Gentiles as such have not really been isolated yet in Scripture, because Abraham is only the father of the Hebrew race and sends his servant back to his own kinfolk for a bride for Isaac. So it is not exactly going to the Gentiles as the Lord is doing today with the bride of Christ, the body of Christ, which is mostly Gentile. Even so, Les puts the parallel on the board: Abraham pictures God the Father, Isaac pictures the Son, and Abraham's servant pictures the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. The servant's role, he says, lines up with the Holy Spirit's work today. He then moves through chapter 24 by highlights because much of it is repetition, beginning with Abraham old and well stricken in age.
And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
