Les Feldick Bible Study

What does Les mean by 'faith plus nothing'?

Faith plus nothing means a belief and faith so rock-solid that the believer knows Christ died for them, their sins are forgiven through His blood, and He arose from the dead. It is not easy-believism; it becomes a power-of-God experience that changes life and produces behavior without a list of rules.

Les explains that when he speaks of believing, or "faith plus nothing," he is not promoting easy-believism—the idea that merely believing in the Lord Jesus makes everything all right. He says he never teaches that. Instead, he means a belief and faith so rock-solid that a person can honestly say with all their being, "I know that Christ died for me. I know that my sins have been forgiven, because His blood has taken care of it. I know without a shadow of a doubt that He was arisen from the dead." When someone believes like that, it becomes a power of God experience that changes their life. It has such an effect that they do not need a list of rules and regulations to guide their behavior; it comes from the power God has put within. It must start with faith: we believe it because God has said it. Les contrasts this with the law, which gave the Ten Commandments written on cold tables of stone, unmovable. The law could only condemn; it had no power to keep a man from stealing or committing adultery. Even love cannot be forced—it must spring from within. The Ten Commandments stand in stark reality to convict and condemn.
