Les Feldick Bible Study

What has Christ claimed to have done, and what did Les put his faith in?

Christ claimed to have done everything necessary, and the speaker put his faith in that claim. The chair illustration shows faith rests on a faithful object; likewise, trust rests on Christ's faithfulness, not on how much one loves God or how much faith one has.

Les explains this with the chair illustration: people sat down without inspecting the chair, placing faith in it to hold them; for that faith to be valid, the chair itself must be faithful. In the same way, he says Christ has claimed to have done everything necessary, and Les put his faith in that. Les reasons that when he reaches the eternal abode, God will not say it was not what it seemed; rather, He will declare that the blood of Christ is faithful. Christ is faithful, and that is why He can be trusted. Les connects this to Paul's point about the faithfulness of the One who is faithful to keep us, because He loved me and gave Himself for me. He also recalls his grandson asking whether he loved God enough or had enough faith not to be left behind, and Les stresses that it is not how much we love Him, but how much He has loved us.
