Why will believers never appear before God with sin on their back?
Every believer's sin is forgiven—past, present, and future—so no sin remains to be charged at God's presence. Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose again, and all trespasses are paid for by His accomplished work, not by anything people have done.
Les explains from Galatians 2:20 that Paul's statement about being crucified with Christ points to the Gospel's function: Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose again. When a person comes under that forgiveness, Les says, they are forgiven everything—past, present, and future. Thus they will never come into God's presence with sin on their back, so to speak, because it has all been paid for. Les admits this is beyond human comprehension; he cannot understand it but believes it because the Book teaches believers have been forgiven all trespasses, not because of anything they have done, but because of what Christ accomplished on their behalf. That is what makes the Gospel simple yet complex, and it will not be fully understood this side of glory.
