Why will believers not have to answer for their sins at the Bema?

Believers will not answer for sins at the Bema because all their sin was judged on Christ at the cross and paid for there. The Bema is strictly a review of believers' works, not a dealing with sin, so no believer's sin will be presented.

Les explains that the great white throne judgment in Revelation 20 is for unbelievers, where their evil deeds are brought before them and they realize their names were never in the Lamb's Book of Life. No believers will be at that judgment. Instead, church age believers will stand before Christ at the Bema, as Paul lays out in II Corinthians 5. Les emphasizes that at the Bema no believer's sin will be presented, because all sin was judged on Christ at the cross and paid for there. The Bema is strictly a review of believers' works; it does not deal with sin. Therefore believers never have to stand before God and give an account for sin, but they will give an account of what they have done as believers. The King James calls it the judgment seat, but the Greek word is Bema.
