Why did Israel cry out to Jehovah in Judges 6?

In their distress, Israel cried out to Jehovah in Judges 6 because they had declined into false gods, and the Midianites from the east were oppressing them, overrunning their crops and taking their children captive. They sought a remedy from Jehovah.

Les teaches that in Judges 6 Israel had come to a point of decline. They had gone after false gods, and the Midianites from the east were giving Israel fits, overrunning their crops and taking their children captive. So Israel began to cry to Jehovah for some kind of remedy. This is also the setting where the term Jehovah Shalom is given to Gideon.

Judges 6:1

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
