Why did God tell Abram in Genesis 15:7 that He brought him out of Ur?
God reminded Abram that He had brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees in order to give him the land as an inheritance. The purpose was not merely deliverance from Ur but the grant of that land, which God would formally deed to him shortly afterward.
Les explains that in Genesis 15:7 God identifies Himself to Abram as Jehovah who brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees. The stated reason is “to give thee this land, to inherit it.” This fits the broader review of the land promise: God will shortly deed the land to Abram, showing that the calling out of Ur was directed toward the inheritance of the land, not simply a change of location.
And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
