Are people who have never heard the gospel still responsible before God and lost?

Yes. According to Scripture, those who have never heard the gospel remain responsible before God and lost. The light enlightens every person, God's power is plainly manifest so they are without excuse, and God's saving grace has appeared to all men. They will come before the great white throne without excuse, though God's judgment is perfectly fair and just.

Les teaches that these verses are mind-boggling, yet Scripture does not lie. He ties John 1:9—the Light enlightens every man coming into the world—with Paul's statement that God's power is manifested in them so they are without excuse, and Titus 2:11, that God's grace bringing salvation has appeared to all men. Even people in the jungles of South America who are thought never to have heard the Gospel are responsible. They will come before the great white throne as lost as loss can be, without a word of excuse, yet God remains absolutely fair and just, able to say, "You could have known. You could have known." The only reason they did not know is that they did not choose to. Les admits this is hard to comprehend.
