Is tradition wrong, and how should believers treat it?

Tradition is not automatically wrong; it can be acceptable as far as it goes. However, Scripture warns believers not to be spoiled through philosophy, vain deceit, and the tradition of men rather than Christ. Every tradition must be lined up with the Word, lest it replace Christ and lead believers astray.

Les teaches from Colossians 2:8 that believers must beware lest any man spoil them through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. He explains that tradition is alright as far as it goes, but it must always be lined up again with the Word. He then points to verse 9, that in Christ dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

Colossians 2:8

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
