What did Ananias know about Saul's persecution of believers in Jerusalem?

Ananias knew by many reports that Saul had done much evil to the saints, the believers in Jerusalem. He also knew Saul had authority from the chief priests to bind or arrest all who called on the Lord's name. He therefore objected to the Lord's command to go to Saul.

Les teaches that Ananias knew all about Saul, having heard from many how much evil he had done to the saints, or the believers of Jerusalem. Ananias also knew Saul had authority from the chief priests to bind, or arrest, all who called on the Lord's name. Yet the Lord told him, 'Go thy way,' because Saul was a chosen vessel to bear His name before the Gentiles. Les points out this was a sudden change in format, since Jesus earlier had said, 'Go not into the way of the Gentiles,' and had not responded to the Greeks who wanted to see Him.
