Why couldn't Jesus give the blessings meant for Israel to the Gentiles?
Scripture teaches that Jesus could not give Israel's blessings to Gentiles because those blessings rested on covenant promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The prophets spoke only of Israel and their Messiah, with no word that Gentiles would receive Israel's blessings. Therefore, the children's bread belonged on Israel's table, not to the dogs.
Les explains that the Gentile woman first called Jesus 'Son of David,' a strictly Jewish address she could not legitimately use, so she dropped it and simply said, 'Lord, help me.' Jesus answered, 'It is not meet, or right, to take the children's bread, and cast it to the dogs.' The children are Israel, the Jews; the dogs are Gentiles. He could not take what was on Israel's table and give it to Gentiles because of covenant promises. He was there to fulfill the covenants made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. All the prophets dealt with God and prophesied concerning Israel and their coming Messiah. There is not a word that Gentiles were to receive any of Israel's blessings. They couldn't, because it was covenant ground, and that was only for the offspring of Abraham. So He could not take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
See the restSojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
