Did Gentiles have a place at the Lord's table when God was dealing with Israel?
No. When God was dealing with Israel, Gentiles were never feasting at the Lord’s table. That table was Israel’s place of privilege, where they enjoyed the Word of God because of their covenant position. Only the Jew had that access then; Gentiles were excluded. Today, however, Gentiles are in that place of privilege.
Les explains that the “table” was the place of privilege that only Israel could enjoy. They literally feasted at the Lord’s table because they had the Word of God, as Romans chapter 2 indicates. Their covenant position gave them that access. Gentiles were never feasting at the Lord’s table when God was dealing with Israel. Today, Les notes, Gentiles are in that place of privilege, but back then it was only the Jew. Romans 3:1-2 confirms Israel’s advantage: they had the temple, the priesthood, the sacrifices, the prescribed approach to Jehovah, the geographical land deeded to Abraham, and miracles like the Red Sea and manna.
