What major system still in use today began with the Roman Empire?

The whole system of courts and law that is still in use today began with the Roman Empire. Rome was the first empire to declare a man innocent until he was proven guilty, a principle that continues in modern legal systems.

Les explains that while Greek philosophy, architecture, and literature still influence us, the primary thing still with us today that began with Rome was our whole system of courts and law. Rome was the first empire to declare a man innocent until he was proven guilty. This is why the Apostle Paul appealed to Rome, knowing that in Caesar's courts he would have as good a chance as any place to be proven innocent and released. Les notes that banking and interest, Greek culture, and Roman law will all be incorporated into the final empire, but at Christ's Second Coming, the stone (Christ) destroys the world system and becomes a great mountain that fills the whole earth.
