Les Feldick Bible Study

Does being a Christian mean giving up all the good times and living a life of sacrifice?

No. The Christian life is not defined by giving up every good time or by living in constant sacrifice. Instead, God has blessed believers with spiritual blessings in the heavenlies, and those blessings last for all eternity, unlike earthly, material blessings that are temporary and fade like a vapor.

Les explains that the world scoffs and thinks Christians are a bunch of nuts, assuming they have to give up all the good times, shun things, and almost live a life of sacrifice. He says that is not the case at all. The context contrasts temporary earthly, material blessings—such as a Cadillac in every garage or a seven-bedroom home—with spiritual blessings in the heavenlies. Earthly blessings last only a little while, like grass or a vapor, but spiritual blessings last forever, all eternity. So the believer’s blessing is not primarily material but spiritual and eternal.
