Les Feldick Bible Study

Does living in high society or with refinement change whether a person is living after the flesh?

No. Refinement and high society do not alter the flesh. Those after the flesh may gratify it with pomp and circumstance or in high echelons of society, yet it remains nothing but the gratification of the flesh. Outward polish does not change the inward realm of old Adam or make one spiritual.

Les explains that those who are after the flesh are still living in the realm of old Adam and know nothing of God's saving grace. They mind the things of the flesh, and that describes the grand majority of the world. They may gratify the flesh with pomp and circumstance or in high echelons of society, but it is still nothing but fleshly gratification. By contrast, those after the Spirit are under the Holy Spirit's control and concern themselves with the things of the Spirit. Les notes that wherever he and Iris travel, whether in upper economic areas or lower, believers want to talk about the book, not weather, sports, or politics—evidence of the Spirit's work, not the natural flesh.

Romans 8:5

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
