What happens to our desires once we come into salvation through faith and under God's grace?

When a person comes into salvation through faith and under God’s grace, the whole system of want-to changes. Paul explains this does not mean freedom to steal or gossip, or that the Law hangs over believers as threatening punishment. Instead, true agape love fulfills the Law, reshaping desires away from coveting, gossip, and sexual immorality.

Les teaches from Romans 13:8 that love is the fulfilling of the Law, because love is always the answer for what the Law demands. He illustrates that you cannot steal from someone you truly love, cannot bear false witness or gossip about someone you love and seek their highest good, and cannot covet what belongs to someone you love. Likewise, if true agape love is functioning, the present-day surge of immorality and adultery would die on the vine, because there is no true love in that kind of sexual satisfaction; it leaves people miserable, and triangles cause unhappiness, grief, and sorrow. So when Paul teaches believers are not under Law but under Grace, Les explains this does not mean they are free to steal or gossip. The Law no longer hangs over them as a threatening punishment. Rather, once we come into salvation through faith and under the Grace of God, our whole system of want-to changes.
