How should a believer decide what to do in areas of Christian liberty?
A believer should decide matters of Christian liberty by determining, between himself and the Lord, what his behavior will be in areas not intrinsically sinful. Liberty is not freedom to go contrary to God’s Word or continue in sin. Since something may be sinful to one believer though not to another, each must settle these differences personally before God.
Les teaches that Romans 6 follows Paul’s argument that grace does not permit continuing in sin. Paul asks whether we should continue in sin so grace may abound and answers, God forbid. The believer is dead to sin and old Adam and should not live any longer in it. Les explains that while we are set free and at liberty, it is not liberty to go contrary to the Word of God. In areas of Christian liberty, differences of opinion can arise because something that may not strike one believer as intrinsically sinful may be sinful to another. Therefore, each believer must determine between himself and the Lord what his behavior will be in certain areas. Giving is one example Les mentions.
