What is the hope of Scripture according to the Bible?

The hope of Scripture is not a wishful desire but the confident belief in an absolute fact: the Gospel is true and secure, and by believing it, believers can claim all the promises God has given in His Word. It is not merely hoping to reach a destination.

Les explains that biblical hope is not the ordinary wishful sense, like hoping it rains tomorrow, but is believing in an absolute fact or truth—that the Gospel is true and secure. When a person believes the Gospel and the plan of salvation, God opens everything up, breaks the chains of satanic power, and makes them a whole new person. Les ties this to the situation where people face impossible odds and a formidable Red Sea; God's instruction is not to hurry and do something, but to do nothing but believe. The hope of Scripture, then, rests on what God has promised, so a believer can claim all the promises God has given in His Word. It is not merely hoping, "I can get there."
