What did God's grace supply for our justification?
Scripture teaches that God's grace supplied redemption—the buying back—so that sinners are justified freely, without a cause, through that redemption in Christ Jesus. Justification is not earned by law, legalism, or works; those make Christ of no effect.
Les teaches that people often go through all sorts of rigmaroles to earn salvation—dotting I's, crossing T's, walking an aisle, shaking a preacher's or deacon's hand—thinking they have done all that is required. But if they have never had faith in the Gospel, Christ becomes of no effect to them; anyone justified by the law, legalism, or works is in that position. Returning to Romans chapter 3, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, yet the next verse says we are justified freely, without a cause, by His grace. Grace supplied the redemption—the process of buying us back—which is in Christ Jesus. That is how justification comes: freely by His grace through redemption in Christ, not by human effort.
