What has God the Father prepared believers for according to Colossians 1:12?

According to Colossians 1:12, God the Father has made believers meet, or prepared them, to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Paul writes that the Father prepared them for this inheritance, delivering them from darkness and translating them into the kingdom of His dear Son.

Les teaches from Colossians chapter 1, verses 12 and 13, that Paul writes giving thanks unto the Father, who hath made us meet—or prepared us—to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. The Father has delivered believers from the power of darkness and translated them into the kingdom of His dear Son. Les explains that this kingdom of the Son is in heaven, so believers now have a heavenly base of operations: the head of the body is in heaven, and believers are citizens. He contrasts this with the earthly Jerusalem, where the temple is still cranking out sacrifices, and points instead to Jerusalem which is above, the spiritual setting in the heavenlies, which is free. He then directs attention to Philippians chapter 3 to tie these things together.
