How do we know Sarah had her own tent?
Scripture indicates Sarah had her own tent because, when the Lord spoke about the coming child, Sarah was standing in her tent door while the Lord dealt with Abram. The context explains that wives each had a separate tent behind the main dwelling, and Hagar did not dwell in the same tent as Abram.
Les explains that when Hagar came back and dwelt with Abram, they were not in the same tent. He notes that these women each had their own tent out behind the main dwelling tent. This becomes evident later when the Lord comes and says they will have a child, and Sarah is standing in her tent door as the Lord deals with them. Les also uses the illustration of four smaller tents behind a main tent for four wives to show the setting: the other wives had separate tents, so Sarah had her own tent, not one shared with Hagar.
And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
