Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les believe Luke must have been a Jew?

Luke must have been a Jew because Paul wrote in Romans 2 that Israel was advantaged since unto them were committed the Word of God; if Luke were Gentile, Paul could not have rightly written that, particularly since Luke wrote the Gospel of Luke and Acts.

Les explains that he has always claimed Luke was a Jew. His basis is Paul’s statement that Israel was more advantageous than any other group because unto them were committed the Word of God. He uses that verse to argue that if Luke were a Gentile, Paul could not have rightly written by inspiration in Romans 2 that the circumcision had much advantage because unto them were committed the Word of God. Since Luke wrote both the Gospel of Luke and Acts—a goodly portion of the New Testament—Paul’s statement would be inconsistent if Luke were Gentile. An article from a lady in Tulsa, possibly El’s wife Betty, substantiated this claim, which thrilled him.
