What do people in legalism not realize about Christ's death?
People caught in legalism and good works do not realize that when Christ died, He paid it all. They keep trying to keep the commandments and make themselves acceptable, not seeing that His death fully paid the complete price and provides freedom and grace rather than bondage.
Les explains that legalism leaves people crawling in the dust, begging that somehow they can make it. The Galatians were going back into law-keeping, giving up their freedom and joy, and letting themselves get wrapped up again in legalism and bondage. Paul asks how they could desire to be in bondage again. Les says the human race today is still groveling in legalism and good works, trying to keep the commandments and not realizing that when Christ died, He paid it all. He longs for God to open people’s hearts to see that Christ has paid it all.
