What did God promise Abram in the covenant recorded in Genesis 12?

God promised Abram, “I will bless them that bless thee, I will curse him that curseth thee,” and that in Abram all the families of Israel would be blessed of the whole earth. This covenant looked beyond the Law to the Age of Grace and salvation for the whole human race.

Les teaches that to understand this, you must go back to Genesis 12 and look at the last part of that covenant. There God says to Abram, “I will bless them that bless thee, I will curse him that curseth thee.” The final part says, “And in thee shall all the families of Israel be blessed of the whole earth.” Les explains that God is looking way beyond the promises given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and way beyond the Law. He is looking at the Age of Grace, when His blessings of salvation go to the whole human race. In that same line of thought, if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and being Abraham’s seed in the realm of the Spirit makes you an heir according to the promise.

Genesis 12:3

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
