Why are so many Christians wrong to add works to becoming a child of God?

Scripture teaches that people become children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, not by keeping the Law or adding works. The Law has been satisfied and paid in full through the Cross, so we enter in by faith plus nothing. Adding works contradicts the finished work of Christ and Paul's meaning.

Les explains from Galatians 3 that the verse does not say, 'You are all the children of God by keeping the Law'; it says they have become children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. He notes that millions of so-called Christians fly in the face of this verse by insisting they must do this or such and such, but the verse includes none of that. Becoming a child of God is by one thing alone: faith in the finished work of Christ. When Paul speaks of faith in Christ, he means the finished work of redemption—Christ died, was buried, and rose again. The Law has done its job, been crucified, and is off the scene, so salvation is not by adding works.

Galatians 3:26

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
