Les Feldick Bible Study

What does Les say we are all guilty of in teaching others?

We are all guilty of taking people right into the further revelations of Scripture without any concept of what went before, expecting them to latch onto these things without background. That leaves them ignorant, without root, so their faith does not hold.

Les explains that the Old Testament writings were for our learning, not for salvation or doctrine, and he illustrates this with a child being expected to jump into university calculus without first learning arithmetic. He says this is exactly what we do with people: we take them into the further revelations of Scripture without any concept of what went before, then wonder why they have no root and why their faith does not hold. They do not understand, and we are all guilty of expecting people to latch onto these things without background. Les also notes that the learning process is slow, requiring patience and comfort, time and repetition, moving on a little deeper and repeating more.

Romans 15:4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
