Why did the mystery have to be revealed?
The mystery had to be revealed because it had been hidden in God from the beginning of the world and kept secret throughout the Old Testament. Scripture says nothing there about God going to Gentiles with the Gospel of Grace. Its revelation makes all men see the fellowship of the mystery, now that salvation came to Gentiles through Jesus Christ.
Les explains that Ephesians 3:9 says the mystery, or secret, was hidden in God, the same God who created all things by Jesus Christ. It had been kept secret all the way up through the Old Testament, with not a word about God going to Gentiles with the Gospel of the Grace of God. The reason it had to be revealed is bound up in that hiddenness: now the fellowship of the mystery is made known, and salvation came to the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, as shown in Galatians 3:14.
