What nation is the best example of an empire that turned on the Jews and went down?

Spain stands as one of the clearest examples. In 1492 King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella decreed that Jews must leave, convert to Catholicism, or die, causing a great Jewish exodus. Within about a hundred years Spain's empire had faded, illustrating the pattern that empires which turn on the Jews go down.

Les explains that if America ever turns on the Jewish nation and stabs them in the back, America will go down the tube just like all the others have. He points to Spain as probably one of the best examples, noting that Spain was riding the crest of national power and empire. Then in 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella made the decree that every Jew would either be out of Spain, convert to Catholicism, or be dead by a certain day. There was a great exodus of Jews out of Spain, and it was not but a hundred years before Spain was nothing, just a blip on history. Les says this is how it has always been with every empire that has turned on the Jew—down they go. It all comes back to the covenant promise that God will bless them that bless the nation of Israel, those out of the seed of Abraham, and curse them who curse them. Yet one promise is secure: through the man Abraham, all the nations of the earth would receive a blessing, which came about with their Messiah, Christ, who finished the work of the cross and became a blessing out of the line of Abraham for the whole human race.
