Why does failing to keep every part of the Law put you under God's curse?
The Law demands perfect, complete obedience to every jot and tittle. Because no mortal can keep it entirely, anyone who seeks favor by the Law places himself under God's curse. Scripture declares, "Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the Law to do them."
Les teaches that when someone says they will keep the Law to merit favor with God, they are placing themselves under the curse, because no mortal man can do it. He points to Deuteronomy 27:26, which says, "Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them." Les explains this means that if you do not keep every last jot and tittle of the Law—as no man can do, and only God can do—you are under the curse of God. He then connects this to Galatians 3:10, where Paul warns that as many as are of the works of the Law are under the curse, quoting that same principle. So putting yourself under a legal system actually puts you under God's curse, which Les calls serious business and serious language, not his own but the Book's.
