Les Feldick Bible Study

What does it mean that God declares His righteousness for the remission of sins?

God declares His righteousness by showing Himself just and fair while justifying sinners through faith in Christ's blood. The remission of sins rests on Christ's finished work, not human works or commandments, so no one can boast; the law of faith calls people simply to believe the Gospel.

Les explains that God's declaration of righteousness is wrapped up in the person of Christ and His finished work. Life is in the blood, and through faith in the blood of Christ there is not only the significance of His death but the potential power for eternal life. God declares His righteousness for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God. Verse 26 goes on to declare His righteousness—the righteousness of Christ—so that Christ might be just, fair in every way, and the justifier of him who believeth. Les clarifies that it does not say the justifier of him who repents and is baptized, or keeps commandments, or does this or that; it says He is the justifier of him who believeth. Therefore boasting is excluded, not by works but by the law of faith, which is believe the Gospel. The salvation verses show nothing we can do except believe.
