Les Feldick Bible Study

Where is the declaration of Christ's righteousness and His justice wrapped up?

It is wrapped up in the person of Christ and His finished work. Christ's righteousness is declared for the remission of sins, so that He might be just and the justifier of the one who believes, not of those who boast in law-keeping.

Les explains that the declaration of Christ's righteousness is for the remission of sins that are passed through the forbearance of God. In verse 26, the purpose is to declare His righteousness—the righteousness of Christ—so that Christ might be just, fair in every way. All of this is wrapped up in the person of Christ and His finished work, and He is the justifier of him who believes. The transcript corrects a misreading: it does not say the justifier of him who repents and is baptized or keeps commandments, but of him who believeth. Therefore boasting is excluded by the Law of Faith, which is believe the Gospel. No salvation verse says anything about what we can do except believe.

Romans 3:26

To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
