How did Judaism degenerate from its original purity over the centuries?

Over the centuries, as rabbis commented on the Old Testament, Judaism gradually watered down from its original purity. It no longer rested on the Ten Commandments and the Torah but had become a religion of 613 rules and regulations by the time of Christ.

Les explains that the religion degenerated over the centuries as the Rabbis began to make comments on various portions of the Old Testament. It gradually became watered down from its original purity. He stresses that this is not criticism of the present Jewish religion, but truth is truth. It had degenerated down to a religion, which is why Paul called it that in chapter 1 at the time of Christ. It no longer rested on the Ten Commandments and the Torah, but had become 613 rules and regulations. Les adds that this meant living 24 hours a day under constant pressure; you could hardly take a breath without breaking one, and they were scared to death of what the religion would demand if they broke one of the 613 commandments.
