When was Saul converted and when did he go to Cilicia?
Saul's conversion on the road to Damascus occurred around 37 A.D., the year after Stephen was stoned in 36 A.D. He then went to Cilicia in 40 A.D. This timeline places his conversion after Pentecost 29 A.D. and before his later Jerusalem visit.
Les places Pentecost at 29 A.D. and sees a seven-year interval to Stephen's stoning in 36 A.D. Saul was then at the height of persecuting Jewish believers. The next year, Saul's conversion on the road to Damascus is dated around 37 A.D., and by 40 A.D. he went to Cilicia. Les further notes that if Saul returned to Jerusalem in Galatians 2 fourteen years after 37, that would be 51 A.D., showing that time moves through Acts and it is not all happening in a year or so. He also notes Judaizers opposed Paul's Gospel of Grace, insisting Gentiles keep the Law and practice circumcision.
