How is Paul's mission different from the mission of the twelve apostles?

Paul's mission was directed to Gentile territory, not to Jewish congregations in Palestine. He was separated from that ministry and sent in the opposite direction from Peter and the twelve, who had no ministry to Gentiles when Jesus sent them out. Paul went to Cilicia and Tarsus, a complete fork in the road.

Les teaches that Paul's calling was distinct from that of the twelve. After the two weeks with Peter, Paul went from Jerusalem directly up to his home area of Cilicia, in total Gentile territory. The Holy Spirit inspired him to show he had nothing to do with those Jewish congregations in Palestine because he was going to be separated from all that. He had no ministry to the Jews there in Judea, no more than the twelve had a ministry to the Gentiles when Jesus sent them out. It was a complete fork in the road: Paul was sent in the very opposite direction from Peter and the apostles. He went into a total new Gentile area, Cilicia and Tarsus, though there were no doubt some Jews in all areas of the Roman Empire. Meanwhile, Jewish believers in Jerusalem and Judea had heard only that the one who formerly persecuted them was now preaching the faith concerning Jesus the Lord Christ.
